Invisalign® is a clear aligner system used to straighten teeth and correct a range of dental issues such as misalignments, overbite and underbite, and more. They’re ideal for patients looking for a subtle solution for tooth alignment, whether to avoid self-consciousness or due to a client-facing profession.
If you are interested in Invisalign or are utilizing this treatment option currently, it’s important to care for your teeth to ensure the best results. These tips can help you keep your teeth and gums healthy while keeping your aligners in good shape.
Brush & Floss Regularly
Because Invisalign is removable, you don’t have to worry about maneuvering around a device. Remove the trays and brush as normal, moving the toothbrush in circular motions and getting around the gumline. Follow this with flossing.
You should brush your teeth at least twice a day, but we recommend additional cleanings after eating to prevent food from getting in your aligners. If you cannot brush your teeth, rinse your mouth with water to eliminate as much debris as possible.
Clean Your Trays
In addition to cleaning your mouth, it’s important to clean the trays as well. This will prevent the buildup of bacteria. You may use a toothbrush to gently brush the aligners or soak them in a cleaning solution, such as a denture cleaner, Invisalign crystals, or Retainer Brite®. Soak them for about 15 minutes, then rinse and place them back on your teeth.
Do not use any abrasive cleaners or brush harshly on your aligners, as this can damage them.
Do Not Eat With Aligners
It’s important that you do not eat or drink anything other than water with your aligners in, as this can damage your Invisalign or cause them to harbor bacteria, which can lead to cavities. Store them in their case until you are done, and rinse your mouth with water before replacing them.
