At The Hills Dental Spa in Austin TX, we want all our patients to stay informed of the most advanced dental technology. If you avidly follow our blog, you might have seen our posts about AGGA and Faceforward Orthodontics.
Just in case you missed it, FaceForward Orthodontics uses what’s referred to as an Anterior Growth Guidance Appliance (AGGA) to stimulate the body’s own growth and repair, shifting your jaw and teeth to a more comfortable, healthier position without the need for additional restorations.
But this sounds like magic! So how does this appliance really work?
How Does It Work?
AGGA might sound like a miracle, but it’s actually quite simple. The Anterior Growth Guidance Appliance is a fixed orthodontic appliance that allows us to change the jaws without surgery. A small, metal plate is placed on the palate. It presses on a nerve, but just barely. This activates natural growth centers in the body to stimulate new bone growth over the nerve in the palate.
This means that AGGA is the least invasive orthodontic option. Unlike traditional, clear braces, or dental surgery, AGGA helps your body work with what is already inside it.
Traditional orthodontics have long focused on moving the teeth within the jaw, whether through exaction, partial removal, or the use of uncomfortable dental restorations. FaceForward Orthodontics, on the other hand, changes the jaw in its entirety, organically making room for your new smile. There is no cutting or pain involved!
What Results Can I Expect?
- A straighter, more consistent smile.
- The jaw extends horizontally and opens up the airway, making it easier to breathe.
- Helps correct overbites and underbites.
- Healthier jaw dynamics and a lack of pain or stiffness.
- Improved sleeping conditions
