Dr. Kory Grahl
Dr. Grahl’s WHY he does what he does: “To strive for excellence everyday so that I can help the people around me experience the success of achieving their goals and aspirations.”
I grew up in a very loving and supportive family in San Diego, California. I was expected to work hard to achieve my goals, and this seemed natural to me. At a very young age, I competed and excelled at the highest level in a number of different sports. Eventually, I came to realize that hockey was the sport I was most passionate about. After helping lead my team to a Pee Wee California State Championship at the age of twelve, I eventually became captain of my high school hockey team, moving on to win two California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Championships. While I loved competing on the ice and the field, I also worked hard in the classroom to achieved honor roll status each year of my entire primary school education. There is definitely a trend here…work hard and achieve great things!
Given my athletic accomplishments, there were many coaches and scouts pushing me to play junior hockey and pursue a career in professional hockey after high school. However, in high school, I realized my passion to pursue a career in health care. I felt that the life experiences, and the ability to help others, would be much more gratifying and fulfilling than a life in sports. I attended Western New England University (WNEU), and played four years of NCAA college hockey. Here I completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, with minors in Chemistry and Forensic Science. My hockey career ended after college, but while studying, I also served as the team captain for two years, and helped lead the team to the playoffs both years, which was the first time for the school in 20 years. I maintained focused in the classroom, graduating Summa Cum Laude and was the recipient of Mortar Board, Leadership Honors Society, Chi Alpha Sigma, Athletic Honors Society and the University Biology Achievement Award. Looking back now, I know these were honors in their time, but no match for the challenges ahead.
After attending the dental school at the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine, I graduated with honors, Cum Laude, and Top 5 in my class. While working through dental school, I was the recipient of numerous awards and honors that included Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) Honorary Dental Society, American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons Award, Delta Dental Student Leadership Award, and was awarded the 2017 Las Vegas AAID MaxiCourse Student Scholarship. Again, I was honored by these accolades but knew greater challenges lied ahead for me. After graduating from dental school, I worked in San Diego to better hone my skills and learn more about how to care for my patients based on their individual needs. During this time, I worked tirelessly in three dental practices. Having the perspective of different doctors, I was better able to iron out my own dental practice philosophy.
While I am eternally grateful for these experiences, and am confident I helped many patients during this time, I was still searching for the perfect practice where I could work with a dentist that truly shared my core values and principal beliefs. Dr. Winters is that dentist. The Hills Dental Spa is a full-service practice that provides nothing less than five-star service to our clients. I am truly honored to have the opportunity to work day-to-day with Dr. Kevin Winters and feel confident that through his mentorship, I will continue to build upon my skills to provide the best care for overall health for our patients.
Honestly, I don’t like to talk about myself, but I am passionate about dentistry and providing the best care possible for our patients. I feel a personal and professional commitment to continuing to improve on the services I can provide for our patients. I truly hope that each visit to our office is stress-free, and even comfortable for you, so that I can deliver five-star service and make the visit an enjoyable experience.
I believe in being active in our community and hope to give back whenever possible. When I’m not traveling to the latest dental education conference, I enjoy time with my wife, Rachael, and our two dogs. I work hard to maintain a very active lifestyle outside the office and feel strongly that overall health improves every aspect of our daily lives. I am currently working towards accreditation with the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), and American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). While I’m constantly working to hone my skills for every patient, I hope you will find my commitment to excellence to be an asset that provides you with better overall health.
